Canadian Music, Played Live, Ten Minutes From the Falls
Canadiana is a 90 minute run through the songs and the artists that made Canada a serious force in popular music, performed by a live band and cast at the Greg Frewin Theatre on Ellen Avenue. It starts at 7:30pm and plays Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings, which makes it the thing to do on the midweek nights when Niagara goes quiet.
The producers call it a dynamic and educational performance for all ages, and the educational part is not a warning: the show is built around who these artists were and why the songs mattered, rather than being a straight tribute set. It runs in the same 550 seat theatre as the resident magic show, on four tiered levels.
Tickets start at $18 and the 13% Harmonized Sales Tax is already in the price. Concessions, a starter menu and bar service are open at every performance, and a buffet dinner before the show can be arranged with the theatre box office on a 6pm arrival.
Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, and Not Every Week
This is the fact to settle before anything else about the evening. Canadiana is not a nightly show and it is not a weekend show. The operator schedules it on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings only, at 7:30pm, and our booking calendar is currently showing 33 performances across the next eighteen months.
Pick the date in the panel first and build the rest of the trip around it. The calendar there is drawn from the operator's own schedule, so the dates it offers are the dates that exist, and a midweek night in Niagara Falls is exactly when this show is worth knowing about.
The Four Levels, and What Each One Costs
The theatre sells four tiers at four prices and the booking panel prices whichever one you pick. These are the current adult and child fares per person, in US dollars, tax included.
| Level | Adult 15 and over | Child 4 to 14 | What it is |
|---|---|---|---|
| Orchestra Level 1 | $24 | $20 | Closest to the stage, on the flat. |
| Level 2 | $22 | $20 | First tiered level, raised but still close. |
| Level 3 | $20 | $17 | Tiered, and the middle of the room. |
| Level 4 | $18 | $15 | The back tier, and the cheapest seat. |
There is no senior fare on this show, on any level, which is worth knowing if you are comparing it with the magic show at the same theatre, where there is one on four levels out of five. The whole spread here is $6 a head from the back row to the front, so the saving from sitting further back is smaller than on most ticketed attractions in town.
How the Night Runs
Doors from 7:00pm, curtain at 7:30pm, out by about 9pm.
Make Your Own Way to Ellen Avenue
This is a ticket rather than a tour, so nobody collects you. The theatre is at 5781 Ellen Avenue, a few minutes from Clifton Hill and the Canadian side of the falls, with public transport nearby. Parking is not part of the ticket.
Arrive Before the Quarter Past
The theatre asks guests to arrive between 7:00pm and 7:15pm for the 7:30pm start. If you have booked the buffet with the box office that is a different and much earlier arrival, 6pm, so check which one applies to you before you plan dinner.
Ninety Minutes of Canadian Music
A live band and cast work through the catalogue, with the stories behind the songs carrying the running order. It is one performance on each night it plays, so a late arrival is not moved to a later house.
Out Into the Evening, Around Nine
A 7:30pm start and a 90 minute show puts you back outside around 9pm, early enough for the nightly falls illumination and for Clifton Hill, both a short walk away.

Frequently Asked Questions
Canadiana The Musical is a 90 minute stage show at the Greg Frewin Theatre in Niagara Falls, Ontario, built around the songs and the artists that made Canada a force in popular music. It is played live by a band and a cast rather than performed to backing tracks, and the producers describe it as a show for all ages.
Canadiana The Musical runs on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings, and not every week. The curtain is at 7:30pm. Our booking calendar is currently showing 33 performances over the next eighteen months, so the date decides the trip rather than the other way round.
Tickets to Canadiana The Musical start at $18 for an adult on Level 4 and rise to about $24 for Orchestra Level 1 at the front. Children aged 4 to 14 pay less on every level, and infants under 4 sit on a lap at no charge. The fare includes the 13% Harmonized Sales Tax.
Canadiana The Musical is performed at the Greg Frewin Theatre, 5781 Ellen Avenue in Niagara Falls, Ontario, a few minutes from Clifton Hill and the Canadian side of the falls. It is a 550 seat theatre on four tiered levels, and the same stage that hosts the resident magic show.
Dinner is not included with Canadiana The Musical. The ticket covers admission and the Harmonized Sales Tax and nothing else. A buffet dinner is available but is arranged directly with the theatre box office and runs to a 6pm arrival, ninety minutes before the show, so it has to be booked separately and in advance.
The best seats for Canadiana The Musical depend on budget rather than sightlines. The theatre states that every level is tiered and every view is unobstructed, so Level 4 at the back still sees the whole stage for $18. Orchestra Level 1 is flat and closest to the band, which is worth the extra $6 if you want to be near the players.
Yes. Canadiana The Musical is suitable for children, and the producers describe it as a dynamic and educational performance for all ages. There is a child fare for ages 4 to 14, infants under 4 sit on a lap at no charge, and a 7:30pm start with a 90 minute running time puts the finish around 9pm.
Yes. The theatre is wheelchair accessible, and the operator states that all areas and surfaces are, not only the entrance. Service animals are welcome, no particular level of fitness is needed, and there is public transport near the venue. Parking is not included in the ticket.
Canadiana and the magic show are two different productions sharing one stage. Canadiana is live Canadian music on Tuesday to Thursday evenings from $18; Canadiana The Musical is grand illusions and sleight of hand on a different set of evenings from $20. Both run 90 minutes and start at 7:30pm, so the night you are in town usually decides which one you see.
