Standing 775 feet (236 metres) above the falls, Skylon Tower has been the defining landmark on the Canadian Niagara Falls skyline since it opened in 1965. The glass-enclosed exterior elevators — known as the "Yellow Bug" elevators for their distinctive appearance — rise along the outside of the tower shaft, giving riders panoramic views during the 52-second ascent. At the top, both an indoor observation deck and an outdoor open-air deck offer views that extend up to 80 kilometres on clear days: the Toronto skyline, Lake Ontario to the north, Lake Erie to the south, and the full sweep of the Niagara Peninsula.

Beyond the observation decks, Skylon Tower houses the legendary Revolving Dining Room — a world-class restaurant that completes one full rotation every hour, ensuring every diner has a falls view throughout their meal. The tower is open year-round and is particularly spectacular at night, when Niagara Falls' nightly LED illumination creates a spectacular light show visible from above. 🎟️ Arrive at Skylon Tower — Robinson Street

Skylon Tower is located on Robinson Street, a 5-minute walk inland from the falls and Table Rock. The tower's entrance plaza features shops and the lower observation arcade at ground level. With a skip-the-line ticket from us, proceed directly to the elevator lobby without queuing at the ticket booth. In peak season, walk-up queues for tickets and elevators can add 20–40 minutes — our priority passes eliminate both.

💡 Time your visit for 30–45 minutes before sunset for the best combination of golden-hour light on the falls and the beginning of the evening illumination. This is universally cited as the single best timing for Skylon Tower by returning visitors.

🛗 The Yellow Bug Elevator — 52 Seconds of Ascent

Board one of the iconic glass-enclosed exterior "Yellow Bug" elevators at the base of the tower shaft. The elevator climbs the outside of the shaft — entirely exposed to the panoramic view — travelling 775 feet in approximately 52 seconds. As you ascend, the falls come into view progressively: first at road level, then above the treeline, then the full 360° panorama opens as you approach the observation deck level. Many guests say the elevator ride is itself the moment the experience clicks — the scale of Niagara Falls becoming apparent as you literally rise above it.

⚠️ The Yellow Bug elevator is an exterior glass elevator — if you have severe acrophobia or vertigo, prepare yourself for the ascent. A small number of guests find the exposed climb difficult. The elevator is fully enclosed and completely safe — but the view downward is unobstructed.

🏛️ Indoor Observation Deck — 360° From Warmth

The elevator opens onto the indoor observation deck — a fully climate-controlled circular space with floor-to-ceiling windows providing 360° views. This deck is the right choice for cold or windy days, for families with young children, and for photography requiring stable shooting positions. Interpretive displays explain what you're looking at in each direction: the American Falls to the northeast, Horseshoe Falls to the south, the Niagara Gorge downstream, Lake Ontario to the north, Lake Erie to the south, and — on clear days — Toronto's CN Tower visible on the horizon.

🌬️ Outdoor Observation Deck — Open-Air 360°

Step outside onto the open-air observation deck — a wraparound outdoor platform at 775 feet with unobstructed views in all directions and no glass between you and the panorama. On clear days, this deck provides the single most spectacular viewpoint for Niagara Falls photography available anywhere. The outdoor deck is exposed to wind and weather — dress appropriately, as it is always cooler and windier at this height regardless of ground-level temperature. Most visitors spend 20–30 minutes on the outdoor deck before returning inside.

📸 Stand at the southern rail of the outdoor deck for the best falls photography. In the early morning and late afternoon, the low-angle light creates exceptional colours in the mist and rainbows above Horseshoe Falls. At dusk, the illumination begins and the view transforms entirely.

For an additional cost, the Revolving Dining Room on the observation level serves both a la carte and buffet dining while completing one full rotation per hour — guaranteeing every table a falls view within 30 minutes of seating. The dinner experience with falls illumination is considered one of the most memorable meals in Canada. Advance reservation is essential in peak season — the restaurant books weeks ahead for evening seatings. Lunch and brunch are easier to book and often more affordable.
