About This Attraction
The Most Complete View of Niagara Falls — From 775 Feet Above
You can stand at the railing of Table Rock and look directly at Horseshoe Falls. You can sail to the base of the falls on Niagara City Cruises. You can descend into the tunnels behind the curtain at Journey Behind the Falls. But only from Skylon Tower can you see all of Niagara Falls at once — both the American Falls and the Canadian Horseshoe Falls, the full breadth of the Niagara River gorge, the islands between them, and the surrounding landscape stretching to two Great Lakes. The tower's 360° observation deck delivers the panoramic context that makes every other Niagara experience make sense.
Standing 775 feet (236 metres) above the falls, Skylon Tower has been the defining landmark on the Canadian Niagara Falls skyline since it opened in 1965. The glass-enclosed exterior elevators — known as the "Yellow Bug" elevators for their distinctive appearance — rise along the outside of the tower shaft, giving riders panoramic views during the 52-second ascent. At the top, both an indoor observation deck and an outdoor open-air deck offer views that extend up to 80 kilometres on clear days: the Toronto skyline, Lake Ontario to the north, Lake Erie to the south, and the full sweep of the Niagara Peninsula.
Beyond the observation decks, Skylon Tower houses the legendary Revolving Dining Room — a world-class restaurant that completes one full rotation every hour, ensuring every diner has a falls view throughout their meal. The tower is open year-round and is particularly spectacular at night, when Niagara Falls' nightly LED illumination creates a spectacular light show visible from above. For an evening view of the falls combined with dinner, there is no rival anywhere in the Niagara region.

✨ Why Skylon Tower Is Essential
🌍
The only place to see all of Niagara Falls simultaneously. From 775 feet, both the American Falls and Horseshoe Falls are visible at once — a perspective impossible from any ground-level viewpoint. You finally understand the full geography: the islands, the gorge downstream, the international border running down the middle of the river, and the scale of the entire system.
🌆
Views extending 80km — two Great Lakes and Toronto. On clear days the view from Skylon Tower's observation deck extends to the Toronto skyline 80 kilometres away across Lake Ontario. Lake Erie is visible to the south. The curvature of the Earth is perceptible on the clearest days. No other Niagara attraction offers this geographical sweep.
🌙
The best vantage for the nightly illumination show. Every night from dusk, Niagara Falls is illuminated by a powerful LED colour-light show. From the ground, the illumination is beautiful. From 775 feet above it, you see the entire falls lit simultaneously — the full width of the Horseshoe, the American Falls, and the mist clouds above lit from within. It is the single most spectacular vantage point for the nightly illumination.
🍽️
The Revolving Dining Room — the most romantic dinner in Niagara. The restaurant completes one full rotation every hour, meaning every seat has a falls view within 30 minutes. Dinner here while the falls are illuminated below is considered one of the most memorable dining experiences in Canada. Advance reservation strongly recommended for evenings — it books out weeks ahead in peak season.
⚡
The Yellow Bug elevators — a Niagara Falls icon. The distinctive glass-enclosed exterior elevators that climb the outside of the Skylon Tower shaft have been photographed by millions of visitors since 1965. The 52-second ascent, with panoramic views expanding as you climb, is itself a memorable and slightly vertiginous experience that guests anticipate as much as the deck itself.
Step by Step
What to Expect at Skylon Tower
From street level to the observation deck and back — a complete guide to the Skylon Tower experience, including the best strategy for timing your visit.
🎟️ Arrive at Skylon Tower — Robinson Street
Skylon Tower is located on Robinson Street, a 5-minute walk inland from the falls and Table Rock. The tower's entrance plaza features shops and the lower observation arcade at ground level. With a skip-the-line ticket from us, proceed directly to the elevator lobby without queuing at the ticket booth. In peak season, walk-up queues for tickets and elevators can add 20–40 minutes — our priority passes eliminate both.
💡 Time your visit for 30–45 minutes before sunset for the best combination of golden-hour light on the falls and the beginning of the evening illumination. This is universally cited as the single best timing for Skylon Tower by returning visitors.
🛗 The Yellow Bug Elevator — 52 Seconds of Ascent
Board one of the iconic glass-enclosed exterior "Yellow Bug" elevators at the base of the tower shaft. The elevator climbs the outside of the shaft — entirely exposed to the panoramic view — travelling 775 feet in approximately 52 seconds. As you ascend, the falls come into view progressively: first at road level, then above the treeline, then the full 360° panorama opens as you approach the observation deck level. Many guests say the elevator ride is itself the moment the experience clicks — the scale of Niagara Falls becoming apparent as you literally rise above it.
⚠️ The Yellow Bug elevator is an exterior glass elevator — if you have severe acrophobia or vertigo, prepare yourself for the ascent. A small number of guests find the exposed climb difficult. The elevator is fully enclosed and completely safe — but the view downward is unobstructed.
🏛️ Indoor Observation Deck — 360° From Warmth
The elevator opens onto the indoor observation deck — a fully climate-controlled circular space with floor-to-ceiling windows providing 360° views. This deck is the right choice for cold or windy days, for families with young children, and for photography requiring stable shooting positions. Interpretive displays explain what you're looking at in each direction: the American Falls to the northeast, Horseshoe Falls to the south, the Niagara Gorge downstream, Lake Ontario to the north, Lake Erie to the south, and — on clear days — Toronto's CN Tower visible on the horizon.
🌬️ Outdoor Observation Deck — Open-Air 360°
Step outside onto the open-air observation deck — a wraparound outdoor platform at 775 feet with unobstructed views in all directions and no glass between you and the panorama. On clear days, this deck provides the single most spectacular viewpoint for Niagara Falls photography available anywhere. The outdoor deck is exposed to wind and weather — dress appropriately, as it is always cooler and windier at this height regardless of ground-level temperature. Most visitors spend 20–30 minutes on the outdoor deck before returning inside.
📸 Stand at the southern rail of the outdoor deck for the best falls photography. In the early morning and late afternoon, the low-angle light creates exceptional colours in the mist and rainbows above Horseshoe Falls. At dusk, the illumination begins and the view transforms entirely.
🍽️ Optional: The Revolving Dining Room
For an additional cost, the Revolving Dining Room on the observation level serves both a la carte and buffet dining while completing one full rotation per hour — guaranteeing every table a falls view within 30 minutes of seating. The dinner experience with falls illumination is considered one of the most memorable meals in Canada. Advance reservation is essential in peak season — the restaurant books weeks ahead for evening seatings. Lunch and brunch are easier to book and often more affordable.

Tips & Important Information
🌅
Best Time to Visit — Golden Hour & Illumination
The single best time to visit Skylon Tower is 30–45 minutes before sunset. You arrive in golden-hour light, watch the sun set over Lake Erie, see the falls transition from daylight to the nightly LED illumination, and experience the fully lit falls from 775 feet above. This window — available every evening year-round — is universally cited as the highlight experience. Evening visits are busier; morning visits are quieter and offer the best clear-weather photography light on the falls themselves.
🌡️
Outdoor Deck Weather & Conditions
- The outdoor deck is always 5–10°C (9–18°F) cooler than street level — bring a layer even in summer
- Wind can be significant on the outdoor deck — hats may blow off; long hair should be tied back for photography
- The outdoor deck occasionally closes in extreme wind conditions — the indoor deck remains open
- On cloudy or foggy days, low cloud can reduce visibility significantly — check forecasts before visiting
- Clear days with low humidity (typically October and early May) offer the greatest visibility for seeing Toronto
📸
Photography Tips
The outdoor deck is the only option for photography without glass reflections. For the falls, position yourself at the southern rail. For the broadest panorama, walk the full circle of the outdoor deck — the 360° shift in perspective is remarkable. Morning light (before noon) illuminates the falls from the east for dramatic contrast photography. Evening light creates warm tones in the mist. Night photography of the illumination is spectacular — bring a tripod or use your phone's night mode.
💡
Insider Tips from Our Guides
- The Yellow Bug elevator ascent is worth savouring — don't stare at your phone. Watch the falls come into view as you rise above the treeline.
- On the indoor deck, the interpretive maps are genuinely excellent for identifying the full geography — spend 5 minutes with them before going outside
- For the Revolving Dining Room, book the last seating time of the evening — you arrive in daylight and watch the illumination begin while dining
- Friday and Sunday evenings in June–September: position yourself on the outdoor deck at 10 PM for fireworks launched directly over Horseshoe Falls — the only place to see them from above
- In winter, the falls are partially frozen and the ice formations visible from this height are extraordinary — snow on the surrounding landscape adds to the drama
⚠️
Acrophobia & Health Notes
The Yellow Bug exterior elevator is glass-enclosed and rises along the outside of the tower — the view downward is unobstructed. Guests with severe acrophobia or vertigo should be aware of this before boarding. The indoor observation deck and revolving restaurant are fully enclosed and do not have the same effect. No health restrictions otherwise — the experience involves no physical exertion and is fully accessible for all mobility levels.
🔄
Cancellation Policy
Our skip-the-line observation deck tickets come with free cancellation up to 24 hours before your visit — full refund, no questions asked. Skylon Tower is open year-round and virtually never closes. On the rare occasion the outdoor deck closes due to extreme wind, the indoor deck and all other facilities remain open. Revolving Dining Room reservations should be cancelled directly with the restaurant.

"I came for the falls view and stayed for an hour watching the sun set over Lake Erie, then the illumination begin. Seeing the full width of Horseshoe Falls lit from above — the colours in the mist, the white water glowing in the coloured light — from 775 feet is something no photograph, including mine, can capture. The context from this height is everything. Down at Table Rock you are overwhelmed by the power of the falls. Up here you understand the geography of the whole system. Both perspectives are necessary. Skylon Tower first — then go down to the water."

"We booked the revolving restaurant for dinner — the last seating. We arrived as the sun was setting. Over the course of our three-hour dinner, we watched the falls go from golden afternoon light to dusk to full illumination. By the time dessert arrived, Horseshoe Falls was lit in deep blue below our table. It rotated past our window three times during the meal. The food was excellent. The experience of eating dinner while one of the world's great natural wonders is illuminated 775 feet below you is genuinely surreal in the best possible way. One of the best evenings of our lives."

"I visited on a clear October morning. Toronto was completely visible on the horizon — you could clearly see the CN Tower with binoculars. The outdoor deck in October is cold and blustery but extraordinarily clear. No summer haze. The falls are lower-volume in autumn, which actually made the geological structure more visible — you could clearly see the full shape of the horseshoe and the layers of rock at the falls face. The Yellow Bug elevator ascent in morning light is genuinely exciting. I went up twice. Our guide from Visiting Niagara Falls made the geological commentary come alive — I now know exactly what I was looking at."

"We visited Skylon Tower on the Friday evening specifically for the fireworks — our guide told us it was the best vantage point and he was absolutely right. The fireworks at 10 PM are launched directly over Horseshoe Falls, and from 775 feet above you see them exploding at eye level, with the illuminated falls below and the full black night sky above. The reflections in the Niagara River below were extraordinary. No other viewpoint in all of Niagara compares for fireworks. We had done the boat ride, the tunnel, and the walk earlier in the day. The tower in the evening was the perfect ending."
