Our other Canadian evenings run to two hundred dollars and include dinner. This one does not, and that is the point. You go up the Skylon Tower for three quarters of an hour, walk the promenade past both waterfalls as the floodlights come up, and finish where your guide has decided the fireworks look best. Ninety minutes, on foot, for less than the price of a Fallsview main course.
The tower is the part that makes it worth more than a free wander. From 775 feet you see the whole arrangement at once, both waterfalls, Goat Island between them, the gorge running north and the city spread out either side of the river. Then you come down and walk through it at ground level while the colour comes up on the water, which is a better order round than doing it the other way.

Up the Skylon First
The evening opens 775 feet up, on the Skylon observation deck, with about three quarters of an hour to use it. Doing this first is deliberate: you get the whole geography in one look, both waterfalls and the island between them, before walking into the middle of it at ground level. Admission is included.
Along the Promenade as the Colour Comes Up
Down and out onto the falls promenade for the walk past the Horseshoe and across toward the American Falls, timed so the floodlights come on while you are in front of them. Level, paved and unhurried, with your guide filling in the history and the stories that the interpretive boards leave out.
The Falls in Rotating Colour
The illumination runs every night of the year and shifts through a rotation of colour across the evening. Walking it rather than standing still means you see it from several angles, and your guide knows which stretches of railing stay clear once the crowd settles.
The Fireworks, From the Right Place
On nights when the display is running, the tour finishes at the viewpoint your guide has picked for it, judged on the evening by wind and where people have gathered. Fireworks are seasonal and weather can postpone them, and your guide will say so before the walk rather than after.

The tour runs on the Canadian side in Niagara Falls, Ontario, with no border crossing. If you are staying on the American side you will cross the Rainbow Bridge to join it, so bring your passport in that case.
