The Whole Canadian Side, and Nobody Else in the Car
Four hours, one licensed guide, one air-conditioned vehicle, and no other travellers in it. The three admissions everybody comes to the Canadian side for are all included, the Skylon Tower at 775 feet, the tunnels of Journey Behind the Falls and the Niagara City Cruises boat into the Horseshoe basin, and between them you stop at the Whirlpool, the Floral Clock and Dufferin Islands, which nobody on a coach gets to do.
It is priced per car, not per head. That is the thing to understand before you compare it with anything else on this site. One person pays CA$689 and so does a couple, more or less, because you are buying the vehicle and the guide rather than a seat: seven people pay CA$1,959, which works out at about CA$280 each with three admissions inside it. A solo traveller will find this expensive and a family of five will find it good value, and both of those are the same price list.
Hotel pickup in Niagara Falls, Ontario is included and there are over a hundred hotels on the operator's list. If you would rather make your own way, the meeting point is the car park of the Continental Pancake House at 5810 Stanley Avenue.
One seasonal caveat, stated by the operator. The boat is the part of this that does not run all year. Go With The Flow give the cruise as typically 1 May to 1 December; Niagara Parks lists Niagara City Cruises as an April to November season. Outside that window the tour still runs and the other two admissions still stand, but the boat will not be part of it, so check before booking a winter date.
What the Four Hours Buy You
The Route, Stop by Stop
Two departures a day, 9:00 AM and 2:00 PM, daily. Because the car is yours the order is not rigid, and a guide who can see the queue at Table Rock is free to run the route the other way round. What follows is the operator's own itinerary.
Dufferin Islands
Ten acres of small wooded islands joined by footbridges just south of the falls, quiet enough that the first thing you notice is birdsong rather than water. Passed rather than stopped at.
Journey Behind the Falls
A lift drops 125 feet through the bedrock into tunnels running behind the Horseshoe, opening onto two portals where the water passes a few feet in front of you, and onto the observation deck at the foot of the falls. The one attraction here that is open every day of the year.
The Nikola Tesla statue
In Queen Victoria Park near Table Rock. Tesla's alternating current is the reason Niagara could be turned into electricity at all, which is a better story than most statues carry.
Skylon Tower observation deck
775 feet, reached in 52 seconds in a glass-walled Yellow Bug lift on the outside of the tower. From the deck you get all three waterfalls at once, which is the view no ground-level viewpoint on either side can give you.
The Niagara Whirlpool
Four and a half kilometres downstream, where the gorge turns hard and the river turns with it. The whirlpool is about four thousand years old and is the reason the water below the falls is Class 6 and unnavigable.
Sir Adam Beck Generating Station
Opened in 1922 and expanded in 1954, still taking water out of the river above the falls and putting it back below them. The scale of it only lands when you drive past the intake.
The Floral Clock
Forty feet across, planted with more than sixteen thousand plants, and a working clock. Built in 1950 and replanted twice a year, which is the sort of thing you only see if somebody drives you to it.
Niagara City Cruises, Voyage to the Falls
The boat out of the gorge and into the Horseshoe basin, past the American and Bridal Veil falls on the way. Seasonal: the operator gives it as typically 1 May to 1 December, and outside that window this stop does not happen.
A maple syrup tasting at Maple Leaf Place is included as well, which the operator lists in the tour description rather than as a numbered stop.
