One Loud Wet Hour, Then Something Warm and Quiet
Most Niagara itineraries are a competition to see who can get wetter. This one is deliberately not. You take the boat into the basin at the foot of the Horseshoe Falls, which is the single best thing anyone does at Niagara, and then you go somewhere warm, dry and slow: a glass dome full of two thousand free-flying tropical butterflies. It is the easiest half-day we sell, and the one that works with children and grandparents in the same group.
The pairing is not arbitrary. Small children handle the boat brilliantly for about twenty minutes and then need somewhere to be a person again. The conservatory is exactly that, warm enough to dry off in, level underfoot the whole way round, and genuinely interesting rather than a filler stop. Butterflies land on people constantly, particularly anyone in a bright shirt.

Table Rock and the Head-On View
You start at the edge of the Horseshoe, where the river tips over in front of you and the mist comes up rather than down. Your guide gets the geography straight here, which three falls you are looking at and why the Canadian side sees the curve of it, before the noise makes explaining anything pointless.
Into the Basin at the Foot of the Falls
Down to the dock and out across the river toward the Horseshoe, where the boat holds position in the churn. The spray comes down hard enough that talking stops being an option and everyone just stands there grinning. Ponchos are handed out. They help, but only somewhat. Seasonal, roughly April to November.
The Butterfly Conservatory
A short drive up-river to the Botanical Gardens and into the glass dome, which is kept at rainforest temperature and humidity. A winding path takes you through it and butterflies land on people the whole way round. There is a glass-fronted puparium where you can watch new ones emerge and dry their wings, which is worth waiting at.
Back to the Falls District
You finish back near the falls with the rest of the day still ahead of you, which is rather the point of a half-day. If you want to carry on, the tunnels of Journey Behind the Falls and the Skylon Tower are both walkable from the drop-off, and your Fun Pack has savings on several of them.

The conservatory is fully accessible, with a level path throughout the dome. The boat has step-free boarding at the Canadian dock but the queuing area involves ramps and lifts, so tell us your requirements when you book and we will confirm the arrangements before you travel.
The tour runs on the Canadian side in Niagara Falls, Ontario, with no border crossing during the day. If you are staying on the American side you will cross the bridge to join it, so bring your passport in that case.
