The history of the Table Rock Centre is fascinating. The first building on the site was constructed in 1827 by Thomas Barnett, who established his second museum of novelties. However, the competition was fierce, and another museum, called Prospect House, was built by Saul Davis in 1853. Davis’ employees were notorious for luring visitors into his complex by promising them free access to the falls, only to charge them outrageous fees later on. Eventually, the Niagara Parks Commission was established, and the complex was acquired under a Provincial Act in 1887.

The Table Rock Centre has also been featured in the movies. Exterior shots of the 1926 (north) building were used in the 1980 movie Superman II to establish it as the fictional “Honeymoon Haven Hotel,” where Clark Kent and Lois Lane represented the Daily Planet in an effort to identify corruption in the honeymoon industry.
