Skylon Tower

If you’re going on a trip to Niagara Falls, Ontario, then a visit to the Skylon Tower is an experience you would love to do. The Skylon Tower is an observation tower that overlooks both American Falls, New York, and the larger Horseshoe Falls, Ontario, from the Canadian side of the Niagara River. It is the most celebrated Niagara Falls restaurant in Canada and offers two levels of fine dining, both 775 feet above the falls.

The legendary Revolving Dining Room Restaurant offers award-winning continental cuisine. This extraordinary experience silently rotates 360 degrees every hour, giving diners a constantly changing vantage point. It’s estimated that you can view more than 125 km from the dining room, making it the most breathtaking view in all of Niagara Falls.

For a more family-affordable option, you can select the Summit Suite Buffet Dining Room restaurant. The Skylon Tower is Niagara Falls’ best dining value with Early Dinner specials, and admission to the Ride-to-the-Top and Observation Decks attractions is always FREE when dining.

Along with the dining experience, the Skylon Tower features an observation deck that offers spectacular views of the falls, the Great Gorge, the Niagara wine district, and the city skylines of Buffalo, New York, and Toronto. Glide smoothly to the top aboard the exterior glass-enclosed “Yellow Bug Elevators” in just 52 seconds.

The 3D/4D Falls Movie “Legends of Niagara Falls” and the Family Fun Centre promise great entertainment for all ages. You can see the Canadian Horseshoe Falls, the American Falls, and the Bridal Veil Falls all from the observation deck or the restaurants. Visibility from the observatory on a clear day is up to 80 miles (125 km).

The Skylon Tower has an interesting history. Construction began in May 1964 and was opened on October 6, 1965, by New York Governor Nelson Rockefeller and Ontario Premier John Robarts. Costing $7 million at the time of its construction, the Skylon Tower was owned by a private partnership called Niagara International Centre, which was financed by Hershey Foods shareholdings of Charles Richard Reese, former co-owner of the H. B. Reese Candy Company of Hershey, Pennsylvania. Canadian Pacific Hotels was hired to operate the tower restaurants and lounges.

In recent years, the Skylon Tower complex has been expanded to include a 3D/4D Theatre, a Starbucks franchise, other quick-service franchises, and a bridge connecting the complex with the newly completed Fallsview Casino. The lights that shine up the tower at night have gone from being the typical white lights to a selection of colors that interchange, done in a similar fashion to the lights that shine on the falls themselves.

Standing at 160 meters (520 ft) from street level and 236 meters (775 ft) from the bottom of the falls, the tower required approval from both Canadian and United States air transport authorities, due to its proximity to the international boundary. It was the second tower to be built using the slipform method, in which concrete is continuously poured into a form moving slowly up the tower.

The Skylon Tower parking lot is centrally located at reasonable rates, making it easy to visit this attraction. All in all, the Skylon Tower is an excellent destination for a unique dining experience, breathtaking views of Niagara Falls, and fun entertainment for all ages. Reserve your table tonight and enjoy the view!
